Justin Timberlake, Lake Tahoe hotels highlight ACC celebrity golf

It’s not every day that you see Justin Timberlake join Alfonso Ribeiro—AKA Carlton from “Fresh Prince of Bel Air”—to do “The Carlton” dance in between rounds of golf. But that’s just one of the highlights from this weekend’s American Century Championship. Held at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course with joint sponsorship by Harrah’s and Harveys resort casinos in Lake Tahoe, Nev., the charity tournament boasted a whopping $625,000 purse. The Tahoe South Celebrity Pro-AM included 80 pro athletes and star actors playing during the week-long event, broadcast live on NBC Sports.
Lake Tahoe is a favorite quick getaway for Las Vegans seeking lake outings, rounds of golf, cooler weather and the A-list Summer Concert Series at Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys. The stunning Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, part of which borders the lake, was packed with event ticketholders and spectators aiming to get a glimpse of their favorite sports and entertainment celebrities. The Championship is one of the biggest annual events in Lake Tahoe, not to mention the premier celebrity golf tournament. But it’s also casual enough that fans can get thisclose to them, and the stars happily obliged to selfies and photos all weekend. Here are a few of our favorite moments.
- The 9th Annual Korbel California Champagne Celebrity Spray-Off featured various stars shaking up mega bottles of the popular champagne and popping the cork. Former NFL quarterback Mark Rypien’s cork traveled the furthest distance, netting him $5,000 to the charity of his choice. Cue the champagne showers!
- “Duck Dynasty” CEO Willie Robertson was crowned the Korbel Hole-in-One champion in the Closest to the Pin competition. In honor of his win, the Korbel Toast Life Foundation donated $5,000 to Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care.
- Located on the premiere party spot, hole 17, the fully stocked VIP tent was packed with high-profile guests and celebrities. Top tier Seven Star members of Caesars Entertainment’s loyalty program, Total Rewards, get full access to the tent’s prime views, amenities and open bar every year. Both the tee box and green TR tents offered sweeping views of the notorious beach party hole running alongside the South Lake Tahoe shore.
- On Saturday night, former NBA player Shaquille O’Neal was the night’s star DJ at one of the official after-parties inside Harrah’s Peek Nightclub. Timberlake’s DJ, Freestyle Steve, joined him at the turntables. Center Stage lounge was also a hot spot to eye celebrities at play (Alfonso Ribeiro singing Michael Jackson anyone?!).
- More big name attendees included Charles Barkley, Mark Mulder, Kevin Nealon, Jerry Rice, Ray Romano, Aaron Rodgers, John Elway, Brandi Chastain, John Elway, Annika Sorenstam, Larry the Cable Guy, Rob Riggle and Jack Wagner.
