Between her media blitz and by slowly releasing new music, Caesars Palace headliner Celine Dion has done a good job of keeping fans amped in anticipation of her long-awaited, full-length new album, “Loved Me Back to Life,” which releases tomorrow and consists of original material and cover songs. One of the most touching segments she performs live in “Celine” at The Colosseum is Janis Ian’s “At Seventeen,” a heart-wrenching song with a light beat and painful lyrics that Dion really makes come alive on stage.
Now, Queen Celine has recorded an actual song version for the new disc, and though the classic tune has been redone by many music legends, Dion’s one-of-a-kind flair and voice inflections perfectly capture the feeling of the song—a woeful monologue about adolescent growing pains.
Similar to “Water and a Flame” and “Incredible,” we obtained an insightful look behind closed doors at the recording of “At Seventeen,” which was produced by music industry genius Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds.
Dion is certainly expanding her repertoire with the edgier “Loved Me Back to Life,” and even says “At Seventeen” “is not something I would have done five years ago, but it has its meaning and its place now.”
Check out Dion’s recent appearance on “The View” where she talks about using her “bedroom hair and bedroom voice” to record a more contemporary sound.
