You’ve got to love Rod Stewart. The cheerful chap always puts on a stellar show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, where he has played “Rod Stewart: The Hits” since Summer 2011. Stewart never misses a beat on stage, where he looks happier and more at ease than ever.

He loves playing the 4,300-seat venue so much, he recently extended his residency into 2015 and added additional dates. January is a big month for Stewart; he hits his 70th birthday milestone on January 10. Help him celebrate by coming to his phenomenal show when he returns to the Vegas stage January 27, playing throughout February.

Stewart is definitely a guy who has all the luck—and even his crew backstage will tell you how fortunate they feel to work with a star who is so iconic, yet so humble. I recently went behind the scenes at The Colosseum to chat with two of his crew members for a little dish on what it’s really like to be around Stewart. His longtime production assistant, Patrick Logue, has been with him since the ‘70s and wardrobe stylist Julia Sola dished on a few fun tidbits about the “Forever Young” singer.

1. Cheeky British humor rules “There are quite a few of us that have the same sense of humor,” Logue says. “We are all British.” Sola chimes in, “I just started with him in March. It’s a very welcoming crew, and they have been with him so long. I feel like I’m English all the time because they are all British! It’s like they have their own language, their secret code.”

2. Rod loves fashion Stewart’s bright, colorful, custom-made silk suits highlight his showman swagger (and don’t forget to check out his socks!) “He is such a fashion guy, and picks all his own clothing,” Sola says. “I just have everything ready for him and multiple suits, everything all laid out. He comes in and depending on his mood, he picks his three looks: the top of show, his first quick change, and his second quick change. He picks what he wears and what the backup singers wear so he coordinates. I find colorful socks I think he would like, too.” Despite having the adoration of thousands of waiting fans, Stewart is a perfectionist when it comes to his look. “He will maybe change his first look a few times before he even goes on stage.”

3. He loves changing up his show Stewart often proclaims that he loves the freedom he gets with his show, whether it’s making his own schedule or adding in songs. “He announces it on stage to the crowd that this is the best set up for him,” Logue says, noting that Stewart has a stock of songs he always sings, but mixes it up often. “There’s not a bad seat in the house.”

4. There’s no backstage drama Aside from occasionally kicking around a soccer ball backstage, Stewart maintains a professional, but chill environment. “He likes to walk around here and visit the band and talk to everybody,” says Sola. “He’s pretty sociable that way. Sometimes on the end of the last show, he will have the band come in and they will visit and have drinks. He is my favorite celebrity I have ever worked with. It runs really efficiently and there is no drama. Here it’s just smooth sailing.”

5. You might see him around Caesars Palace While both say he doesn’t hit the casino floor often, he has been known to dine at two favorites: Spago and Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill.
